De Montigny Contemporary is honored to present Rosalie Gamache & Mélanie Myers - a survey of the artists’ work over the past year. Hailing from Quebec, Canada, Gamache and Meyers craft pictorial worlds at once lonely and intimate, melancholic and yearning. Though the artists differ in their methods and choice of subjects, both probe European and North American approaches to representation. In her Wettability (mop) series, Myers appropriates Marcel Duchamp’s Nude Descending a Staircase (1912), replacing the titular figure with a household appliance; whereas Gamache, recalling the Group of Seven’s rugged landscapes (1920-1933), dresses her forest scenes in pink - comparatively plush - hues. Together, Gamache and Myers question heteronormative ways of seeing, inviting viewers to linger in the space between homage and departure.
