"This painting, Lodgings, is part of a series produced in 2016 and 2017
and is about fitting in and blending in while at the same time
celebrating my Japanese ethnicity. Although the fusion of abstract
forms with reproductions of Japanese woodblock prints and paintings
has been the foundation for all my previous works, the emphasis here
is on a tighter integration of the two components. The addition of
familiar Canadian imagery - animals, scenery, etc.- as key elements,
further illustrates my search for balance."
