Equilateral No. 8 (Midnight Bloom)

Acrylic on canvas
48 x 36 in.
2018

"This painting, Equilateral No. 8 (Midnight Bloom), is part of a
series that continues to explore the Japanese-Canadian theme but
a new component, the equilateral triangle, has been integrated into
the work. The triangle was a calculated choice not only because of
its appealing proportions and its potential to provide stability to a
collection of diverse images but also because it seemed an
appropriate symbol to represent tolerance and equality which was
tragically absent in the history of the Japanese Canadians.
These two paintings are an acknowledgment and acceptance of
my dual heritage and of having learned to embrace the beauty and
the blending of two cultures - of being Japanese Canadian."
