Leslie Hossack’s latest series, INFERNO, exposes objectively measurable aspects of climate change. As with her previous projects, INFERNO is research base. Here, Hossack examines critical issues such as hazardous air quality, unprecedented wildfires, scorching temperatures, rising sea levels and melting Arctic ice. INFERNO is data driven. Although these works are abstract, they are accurate representations of scientific records.

“Smoke” is the title of this suite of six pieces in the series INFERNO. These images are a response to the hazardous air quality experienced in the summer of 2023, when smoke from Canadian wildfires drifted across the country and around the world. The Fine Particulate Matter Readings represented in these six works were recorded in Downtown Ottawa over a three-day period in June 2023.
