Sample Return [martian regolith]

Soldering helping hand, bronze key, with silica, iron oxide, aluminum oxide, magnesium oxide, sulfate in a polyethylene baggie
7 x 7 x 10 in. / 18 x 18 x 25 cm
2024

These small soil samples explore the artist’s long-time fascination with space exploration. These samples mirror the chemical composition of Martian regolith to about 98%. Enclosed in a simple polyethylene dime baggie, they carry the essence of another world: silica, iron oxide, aluminum oxide, magnesium oxide, sulfate. A tactile connection to the red planet, merging a fascination of simulation and synthetic materials with the tangible elements that compose our celestial neighbour.
