V Vallières

Recurring themes in their work include memory, reality, the subconscious, and the mechanisms we develop to cope and defend ourselves. Vallières is also a ceramic technician at a community night school and an active member of local ceramic studios. They identify as non-binary, queer, and neurodivergent.

V Vallières is a Toronto-based multimedia artist working primarily in ceramics and textiles. They hold a BFA from Concordia University and have participated in multiple residencies across Canada. Their work has received support from the Ontario Arts Council and is part of the permanent collection at Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

The works presented span a period of experimentation with the human form, evolving from recognizably figurative pieces to more surreal, fantastical expressions that move beyond the depiction of a singular body. Over time, Vallières’ process has become increasingly intuitive and subconscious. Their hand-built coil sculptures are created through a method akin to the surrealist game Exquisite Corpse, where sections are hidden during construction to embrace spontaneity and the unpredictability of ceramics.
